It was the outlook and lifestyle of the top countries that seemed to play the most importance in the happiness scale.

I have always been fascinated by the concept of "happiness". I continue to think of the notion of happiness as more temporal and emotion based (happy & sad) and do believe there is beauty in the spectrum. Yet too, it is the subjective well being that looks at a number of factors (i.e. health, wellness etc.) .. I consider joy a more permanent state and too believe that the idea of well being is so deeply important. Perhaps today on father's day this came to mind as though my father has the financial wealth from his investing and former work, he never has spent much on himself (only on others), and has always focused on lifestyle decisions and relationships as the key to personal wellness. .. Though personally he's had many hardships, he too is one of the most positive persons I know. Despite the depth of feeling in my life journey, I too strive to always hold to underlying optimism, faith and hope, no matter the circumstances or my temporal state of happy or sad

So today your post moved me ... It is true, our subjective well being perhaps comes from within, not only in the emotions, but in the living of life. ... yet too, even sometimes when we visit sadness, we still can uphold the beauty in the entire walk and have a positive optimistic outlook on life if we feel good about who we are, what we are doing, and those important persons we hold most close. ...

Thanks for an insightful post, perhaps it took on new meaning today (smile) :)
Blessings to you on this Father's Day
KringleKringlehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09007883013985271231noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6507719906780340240.post-77028601577321018622009-06-12T06:49:45.650-05:002009-06-12T06:49:45.650-05:00What we call the secret of happiness is no more a ...What we call the secret of happiness is no more a secret than our willingness to choose life.Yours is a nice blog.LAWRENCE CLAYTONhttp://www.clickhappiness.com/elife-magazine/happiness.aspnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6507719906780340240.post-17241506632929580132009-05-17T09:39:00.000-05:002009-05-17T09:39:00.000-05:00As I just revisited your post I was captivated by ...As I just revisited your post I was captivated by your query. Your contemplation about thoughts, perceptions and reality is uniquely interesting as yes, I do believe events occur outside of our thoughts, and yet too it is our emotions, perceptions, and fundamental being that creates that which is, that which is experienced and that which is to come. You too questioned whether memories encourage thinking forward or anticipation... I believe that memories and past events seed current and future events and that they are directly influenced not only by the past "as was", yet too the past as experienced for it is our emotions, our meaning, and that which we believe in that drive our development of self and thus facilitate construction with others, the good Lord and the world on that which is to become. Yet too perhaps it is a bit more complex as conceptualizations of dual time would not assume full linearity. ...

You have me thinking this morn... yet too, that is a good thing (warm smile).

Thanks for your thoughts, and for your questions
Blessings
KringleKringlehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09007883013985271231noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6507719906780340240.post-69275802982518161972009-05-04T15:39:00.000-05:002009-05-04T15:39:00.000-05:00Thanks for these comments. It is difficult, as Tolle says, to be fully attentive to the now, without getting distracted by our emotions and memories. I'd be interested if you think that memories encourage thinking forward, or anticipations? We interpret events in a cause and effect relationship. But how much of the connection between events is our own interpretation and explanation rather than what really happened? And...to belabor the point even more, is there such a phenomenon as what REALLY happened? Since meaning is entirely constructed within minds it cannot exist outside of thought and the brain.Charles Christiansenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07737509270108902334noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6507719906780340240.post-6197892958006732012009-05-04T03:27:00.000-05:002009-05-04T03:27:00.000-05:00I felt what you describe here too. I think some times time passes so slow because we do not accept the way situations unfold in our life and instead we keep our attention in our heads, thinking of how we could happily enjoy that moment, if it had the right circumstances.

Secret: Accept the Now, no matter how it unfolds. Feel everything: love, hate, anger, rage, sadness, depression, but do not react to it. Allow it to exist inside you and choose to respond to what it's saying.

From what I`ve read at some point, time is nothing but a mental construct. There is nothing but the moment Now, and what we call 'time' is composed of past memories and future projections of the mind.

Check spiritual literature for this - sure, it's not scientific proof, but it's an interesting way of considering time. I recommend The Power of Now and The Presence Process for this.Dan Munteanuhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01276705979672534270noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6507719906780340240.post-16328148038642271302009-05-02T22:30:00.000-05:002009-05-02T22:30:00.000-05:00Your post captivated me as time is a concept I oft...Your post captivated me as time is a concept I often contemplate. Perhaps my view differs in that I adhere to conceptualizations of "space time" which are more 3 dimensional in nature and do not always consider time a linear point. I am mindful that it is those most special times where we are engaged in what we are doing, or spending time with close friends, family or loved ones that time can seemingly fly by in a second, or stand still as if an eternity. I have always believed however that perhaps it too transcends the mathematical concepts of space time and ventures into the spiritual realm.

If you are interested, here is a site that links to other sites with conceptualizations of space time. ..

http://www.ws5.com/spacetime/

though I believe time transcends the limits of mathematics and science, perhaps too, the 3 and 4 dimensional views bring us to venture beyond our traditional conceptualizations. ... I query why I am captivated by such conceptualizations.. perhaps because time is so precious?!

Thanks again for your post.
KringleKringlehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09007883013985271231noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6507719906780340240.post-3181352451941469792009-04-06T14:35:00.000-05:002009-04-06T14:35:00.000-05:00Found your site through Kringle's... glad I found ...Found your site through Kringle's... glad I found both! The blue zone has been an area of interest to me as my father read the book, went to a seminar, and met with the author. As a man in his mid-70's my dad is very active and occupationally engaged, yet too still chose to follow the blue zone in an attempt in enhance a life he already has spoken of as highly engaged and satisfying. In just one month after following the Blue Zone he lost 11 pounds and dropped his blood pressure. He was amazed. The percepts are very interesting. I too was interested in your discussion of happiness as the blue zone has actually posted a link on one of the happiest places in North America... namely a place in Mexico that despite its seemingly low quality of life, has been found to be one of the happiest. As I think back to a mission/ social service trip to the border cities in the 80's (one in which we worked with the locals to build churches and residences), I was struck by the fact that despite the blatent poverty and many folks living in cardboard boxes, that they were filled with such faith, love, hope and happiness. The concepts of resilience, social engagement, love, faith and hope came to mind. I have found this link inspiring and thought you and your readers may be interested:

http://www.bluezones.com/video/8-video/27-the-happiest-place-in-north-america

Thanks for your insightful blogs!
KringleKringlehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09007883013985271231noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6507719906780340240.post-51258008562803591002009-03-14T09:41:00.000-05:002009-03-14T09:41:00.000-05:00Dude, I still don't get what this has to do with t...Dude, I still don't get what this has to do with the topic of your website???Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6507719906780340240.post-13238122687428607442009-03-12T21:47:00.000-05:002009-03-12T21:47:00.000-05:00The Opinionator ran a column on March 6 about Atla...The Opinionator ran a column on March 6 about Atlas Shrugged and the novel's story of "wealth producers" going on strike. The protagonist of Atlas Shrugged is a character named John Galt, and the expression "Going Galt" is now used to refer to a kind of silly passive aggressive behavior advocated to protest the policies now being pursued by the Obama administration.
